History

In 1926 brothers Dassler started making sports shoes. But in 1948 the family business split in two: Adolf’s company was called Adidas, while Rudolf’s became at first Ruda, but later was renamed to Puma. The company was innovative and thanks to this developed dynamically. In 1949 was invented the first worldwide screw-in cleat shoe “Super Atom”. A few years later runner Josef Barthel wore Puma while he won an Olympic Gold Medal in the 1500 m. In 1956 the formstrip became a Puma trademark and thanks to television it could be seen all over the world. In 1960 the company the first made use of vulcanization in the production. For more than 70 years Puma is a creator of goods for the fastest athletes on the planet.

Development and social influence

These days Puma designs and manufactures and sells footwear, apparel, and accessories for men, women, and children. Its products have high-quality and meet customer expectations.

A small business has grown into an international company:

  • more than 14000 employees in about 120 countries,
  • more than 800 stores worldwide,
  • 5,23 billion euros revenue of in 2020,
  • 78,9 million euros net income in 2020.

The slogan of Puma is «Forever Faster». The founder of Puma Rudolf Dassler declared “With the speed, agility and spirit of a puma, my Puma shoes inspire athletes in competitions and empower them to victory”. According to this statement, the Puma brand is based on the next values that make an excellent athlete: to be brave, confident, determined, and joyful.

There are also many funny pictures: a dog in a Puma’s cap, animated pictures of heroes in Puma’s clothes, the main character of the popular Korean drama series “Squid game” with the company’s symbol Puma pictured on a cookie.
